Narval and Joyce Davis were true pioneers in the growth and advancement of the town of Firebaugh. They brought agriculture technology, employment and opportunity to so many. As the N.F. Davis Dryer and it's farming success grew, so did their generosity. They supported all local charities that helped our youth but the St. Joseph's School was a true favorite. They hosted grand events to benefit the school. Each year had a unique theme and activities such as ostrich or camel races that would draw attendees from all over the valley. It was not unusual to have 800 people at an event. Their hospitality most certainly kept St. Joseph's School thriving and our community was forever thankful.
The vision and design of this beautiful estate is credited to Narval and Joyce Davis but I think it's fair to say most of the vision goes to Joyce. In a time before the internet or resources so readily available at our fingertips now, Joyce poured through magazines, clipped pictures and organized her ideas in neat, well labeled folders for many years. She visited architecture projects in Pasadena and sought incredibly talented architects and craftsman that could bring her vision to fruition. In 1961 construction was started on her dream home.
