This property has been full of family history, agriculture innovation and community events. What we would call our new home weighed heavy on our minds.
There has been cotton, rice, alfalfa, walnuts and grapes grown on it's fertile soil. Ownership has changed, crops have changed over the years, the one common thread throughout the property that will not change is that all structures are constructed in whole or part with recycled brick which includes clinker brick.
What is clinker brick you ask? Clinker bricks are produced when wet clay bricks are exposed to excessive heat during the firing process. Clinker bricks have a blackened appearance and they are often misshapen or split. Clinkers are so named for the metallic sound they make when struck together. Initially these clinkers were discarded as defective but around 1900 the bricks were salvaged by architects who found them to be usable, distinctive and charming. Once considered trash, clinkers are now a treasure. Modern brick making techniques do not produce clinker bricks and they have become rare. We thought Clinker Brick Estate was a charming name worthy of the character, history and thought that went into building such a unique property.
